Gaia Award for ABLOY Low Energy Locks at the Big 5 Exhibition, Dubai Sustainability is in focus at the largest construction event in the Middle East this year. Gaia Awards is one of the industry’s most respected awards for sustainable construction products. ABLOY Low Energy Locks were showcased at the ASSA ABLOY stand at The Big 5, Dubai, in 21 – 24 November. Low Energy Locks won the Gaia Award 2016 for sustainable construction products in a visitors' voting at the exhibition. Abloy launched its Low Energy Locks in 2015. The first introduced models are EL560L for DIN range and EL580L for Scandinavian Range. “Sustainability is a topical issue in the Middle East, especially after the U.A.E. ratified the Paris Climate Agreement in September 2016. There are initiatives for sustainability, for example the first and biggest green project in the Middle East by the Abu Dhabi based Masdar, which is increasing the awareness of green values on the market. Our customers also require sustainability of the complete life cycle of products”, says Noury Bazido, Abloy International Market Region Manager, Middle East. “We displayed the Low Energy Lock in a model structure side by side with a magnet lock, whose energy consumption is thousands of times bigger (52 kWh a year) than that of our lock (0,02 kWh a year). The Low Energy Lock uses electricity only the moment when it is needed for activating or de-activating the lock’s handle function. In addition, the lock is of premium quality for its safety, security, aesthetics and convenience”, says Kari Sallinen, Senior Solution Manager at Abloy Oy. Low Energy Locks are an example of Abloy’s long-term commitment to sustainability. “For Abloy, sustainability is a state of mind. It concerns all our processes – product development, choice of materials, health and safety of employees and customers, distribution and service”, says Minna Sallinen, VP Product Management at Abloy Oy.
